Our story

The Fife Triratna Buddhist Group began around 2010 when a few of us decided to meet regularly to meditate and support each other’s practice after attending retreats at Dhanakosa – the Triratna Buddhist retreat centre near Callander in Stirlingshire.

Initially meeting in members’ homes around north-east Fife, as the numbers grew we realised we needed to hire a venue and the top floor of the YMCA in Cupar became our regular meeting space.

When Covid lockdowns arrived, not wanting to lose our connections with each other and, realising that in these unique circumstances access to the Dharma was needed more than ever, we transferred to an online sangha meeting using Zoom.

These online evenings proved popular with Fifers but also with people from other part of Scotland who joined for Thursday sangha nights and eventually Sunday evenings for pujas (Buddhist devotional practice).

When the world opened up again, we decided to keep the Thursday sangha evenings and Sunday pujas online to continue to support those who would find it difficult to make an in-person meeting on an evening during the week.

In parallel, alongside these online sessions, we have an in-person retreat every month, alternating between Cupar one month and Kirkcaldy the next.
